When you step off the plane in Las Vegas, the first thing you see is a gift shop piled high with Golden Knights hats, hoodies and tees. As you hit the coffee shop, a neon sign sparkles, “Go Knights Go.” When you approach the taxi line, the cab hailer high-fives the cab driver saying, “Go Knights!” And this is all before you leave the airport.

Well, this happened…Las Vegas is officially a sports town. And not just a bet-on-sports town. We’re talking frenzied fans, sold-out arenas, black-and-gold blanketed everywhere type of sports town.
The fine people of area code 702 have been thirsting for a major-league team for pretty much ever. And man, did they strike gold with the Golden Knights. This expansion team was projected to finish dead last in the NHL this season. But don’t blame the pundits. Logically, that was what was supposed to happen.
Las Vegas is hotter than ever, and we’re definitely not talking about the weather.
If you happened to catch a sports highlight recently, you’ve seen the improbable run of the city’s first major-league franchise defy all expectations to reach the finals its inaugural season.
No one saw it coming. Not the oddsmakers, who had the Golden Knights at 500-to-1 before the first puck dropped in October. And not the NHL experts, with most preseason projections slating these self-proclaimed “Golden Misfits” to finish dead last this year.
